TITLE AUTHOR ORIENTATION OF AUTHOR PUBLISHER YEAR COMMENTS
Ambidextrous: A Memoir in the Form of a Novel Picano, Felice gay? bi? Plume 1985
Anxiety of Everyday Objects, The Sheehan, Aurelie Penguin 2004 Bisexual moments; 4 characters express bisexual feelings (Jeremy & Rex), engage in bisexual behavior (Sandy), or appear to be experiencing bisexual feelings without fully realizing it (Winona).  Winona also describes one of her "greatest moments of glory" being witnessed by "throngs of bisexual castabouts" (p. 4).  She accepts the three other characters' bisexual comments or activity without comment or particular notice.  The fact of Sandy's bisexuality didn't shock her... It was the circumstances (shtupping the boss in the office and spying for her former girlfriend).  This book has bisexual "tendencies" and a lot of bisexual subtext (Winona's feelings toward Sandy), but no overt bisexuality.
Aquamarine Anshaw, Carol bi when she wrote it, now lesbian Mariner 1997 Three part story.  Each chapter represents 3 different possible lives the same character could have lived depending on different possible choices she made in her youth.  The three chapters, taken together, add up to bi.  Creative and well-written.
Because They Wanted To Gaitskill, Mary Scribner Paperback Fiction, NY 1997 Short story collection.  Stories with bi content include Orchid, Kiss and Tell, and The Wrong Thing.
Bruised Fruit: A Novel Livia, Anna Firebrand Books, Ithaca, NY 1999
Crazy Cock Miller, Henry straight but his wife was bi Grove Weidenfeld, NY 1968 Henry Miller's fictionalized memoir and ode to jealousy about living in NYC with his bisexual wife June who brings her female lover to live with them.
Extra Man, The Ames, Jonathan bi-ish "the gayest straight man in America" Washington Square Press 1988
Fifth Sacred Thing, The  Starhawk bi Bantam Books  1993 Five positive bisexual protagonists add up to a very bisexual novel!  Well written fantasy/sci fi.  Bi female senior citizen character talks to her dead lovers, male and female, and to get advice.  Five bi heroes.
Five Married Men Brant, Martin bi iUniverse 2006 Tales of the closet.
Frida: A Novel Based on the Life of Frida Kahlo Mujica, Barbara ? Penguin 2001
Giovanni's Room Baldwin, James bi Delta 2000
Home at the End of the World, A Cunningham, Michael Farrar Straus Giroux, New York 1990
I Pass Like Night Ames, Jonathan bi-ish "the gayest straight man in America" Washington Square Press 1989
Inner Circle, The Boyle, T. Coraghessan Penguin 2004
Jesus in Love Kittredge, Cherry lesbian minister Androgyne Press 2006 Jesus as bisexual and multi-gendered and in love with both Mary Magdalen and John, but celibate.  The author obviously knows her way around a spiritual experience and succeeds at describing them. Very poetic and brilliant although it could have used a better editor.  Worth reading anyway.
Life, Sex and the Pursuit of Happiness  Klein, Fritz bi Harrington Park Press Surprisingly low on bisexual content considering it was written by the father of the bi community.   Will not win any literature prizes either.
Lucy: A Novel Kincaid, Jamaica Farrar Straus Giroux, New York 1990
Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon, The Spanbauer, Tom HarperCollins 1991
Mrs. Stevens Hears the Mermaids Singing Sarton, Mary bi George J. McLeod Limited, Toronto 1965 Main character, a writer, has husband, boyfriend and several girlfriends & girl crushes throughout her lifetime.  Main character considered autobiographical in spirit.
My Worst Date: A Novel Leddick, David St. Martin's Press 1996 Coming of age novel about gay teen who dates older man who is also dating his mother.  Bi character is somewhat sleazy but novel good.
Myra Breckenridge Vidal, Gore bi 1968 Fierce campy bisexual transexual satire.
Mysteries of Pittsburgh Chabon, Michael bi Classic college bisexual love triangle. Main character is bi.
N.P. Yoshimoto, Banana Washington Square Press 1990
Orlando Wolf, Virginia bi Not explicitly a bisexual novel, the main character changes sex half-way through as a "symbol" of bisexuality.  This plot device was a way for Woolf to express her bisexuality w/out having to come out.  (Remember that when this book was published in 1928, there was no public awareness of transgender so the change of sex read as a fanciful.)  Woolf, though married, had a relationship to the equally married Vita Sackville-West who had a habit of sometimes dressing like a man when with her female lovers.  Long, rambling, ponderous but historically significant.
Phyllida and the Brotherhood of Philander: A Bisexual Regency Romance Herendeen, Ann bi AuthorHouse 2005 Very bi central character and storyline.  Very humorous.
Some Girls McCloy, Kristin ? (I'm guessing bi) Penguin 1994
Stir Fry Donoghue, Emma HarperCollins 1994
Tales of the City, Volume 1 Maupin, Armistead gay The Chronicle Publishing Company 1978 The story becomes more and more bisexual as you follow the characters through successive volumes.  Many of the "straight" characters become bi.
Tales of the City, Volume 2 Maupin, Armistead gay The Chronicle Publishing Company 1980 More Tales of the City
Tales of the City, Volume 3 Maupin, Armistead gay The Chronicle Publishing Company 1982 Further Tales of the City
Tales of the City, Volume 4 Maupin, Armistead gay The Chronicle Publishing Company 19YY Babycackes
Tales of the City, Volume 5 Maupin, Armistead gay HarperCollins 1987 Significant Others
Tales of the City, Volume 6  Maupin, Armistead gay Sure of You
Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone Baldwin, James bi The Dial Press, NY 1968 This book is mostly about being black in America.  There is a strong current of bisexuality that runs through the book but it's not substantial even though it keeps coming up until the last 42 pages, where it becomes a blatantly bisexual book.  The main relationship is with Barbara, a white woman, a fellow actress, & his soul-mate.  I think he saves it for last because he found it the most taboo.  Dating a white woman was taboo enough for most of the book and was counterpointed by the (black) main character's hatred of whites.
Three Sides to Every Story   Nero, Clarence gay Harlem Moon 2006 Main bisexual character torn between high school sweetheart gone wrong and prison boyfriend.  Very bisexual til the disapointing ending when character inexplicably goes gay.  Genre: commercial street fiction .  Upside: all characters are african-american.
To Serve and Submit: A Novel of Fantasy Wright, Susan bi Penguin 2006 This is mostly an S&M B&D type novel with some bisexuality.  The bisexuality is more psychosexual than emotional or romantic.
Tommy's Tale Cumming, Alan bi, queer HarperCollins 2002 Bisexual casual sex, drugs, partying, boyfriend at home and…parenting.  Very bisexual but this book wont overturn any stereotypes except the one that says a guy with a boyfriend would not seek out girls on the side.
Wake Up, Sir! Ames, Jonathan bi-ish "the gayest straight man in America" Scribner Paperback Fiction, NY 2004 This book has bisexual tendencies rather than being overtly bisexual but is creative and well worth reading.

The bisexual man's bedroom door swings wide open to reveal the depth of
the male bisexual erotic experience in this collection of short
stories!

Bi Guys: Firsthand Fiction for Bisexual Men and Their Admirers brings
together a unique collection of outstanding writing about the bi male
sexual experience. With stories from renowned queer authors Felice
Picano, Patrick Califia, Dale Chase, Simon Sheppard, Thom Wolf, Bill Brent,
and Marco Vassi, and more, this is bisexual fiction with a decidedly
masculine viewpoint – and an undeniable male heat!

RAVE REVIEWS FOR BI MEN

"Ron Suresha's splendid volume joins earlier work . . . in revealing
the all-but-forgotten desires of bisexuals. These stimulating stories
will satisfy the erotic needs of pretty much all readers. But these
stories are not only entertaining. They introduce to a wide readership a
range of bisexual issues and emotions not normally addressed in literature,
straight or gay. And they deal with these issues positively - with the
seriousness and clarity they deserve. ~ David van Leer, Journal of
Bisexuality

"Sexy, saucy, and unrepentant. . . . You'll meet bears, blonds,
hustlers, housewives, truckers, trannies, policemen, pigs, and well . . . the
list goes on. Nothing in these stories is as it seems - often to the
dismay or delight of their characters." ~ Michael Bronski, Author of Pulp
Friction: Uncovering the Golden Age of Gay Male Pulps

"A bold and unique anthology celebrating men's endless capacity for
lust and love in all their variations. Most striking is this collection's
honesty, its courage in flinging open the closet door on bi guys'
secret fantasies, their pride, and even their shame for daring to desire
both women and men. Readers who immerse themselves in this abundance of
joyful cavortings, furtive sexual encounters, and romantic relationships
will find renewed respect, admiration, and desire for the bi men among
us." ~ Daniel M. Jaffe, Author of The Limits of Pleasure

"Suresha has broken new ground to provide a much underserved population
with a comprehensive collection of erotic fiction navigating the
boundaries of bisexual men's desires. Contributions from heavy hitters such
as Felice Picano, Patrick Califia, and Simon Sheppard thoughtfully
explore the intricacies of the masculine and feminine sexual continuum."

Adding a Bi Award to the Lammies

On Sunday I received the e-mail below from Wendy, VP at BiNet USA asking for donations to add a Bi Award to the Lammies.  Please read carefully and if you can help Contact Wendy Directly.  This import project will help with Bi Visibility within the queer community and her supporters.  Please let Wendy know you get this info from Chris Clark at Bi-Ways of Western New York
Chris

It's been s
uggested that the best way to get a bisexual award added to the Lammies (Lambda Literary Foundation annual GLBT literary awards) is to provide the money to make this happen - approx $1000 per year.

BiNet, like most bi organizations, has no spare money for anything.. let alone an award.  But, realizing the importance of said award, I'd be willing to fund raise for it - and negotiate with Lambda over the details / process.  I've even offered to start the fund drive with $200 of my personal funds.

If I can get PLEDGES (don't worry about sending checks yet.. but don't pledge if you don't plan to deliver.  I am a horrible nag and never forget) to cover the rest, I'll start working with Lambda.

So, what about it?  Put your money where your mouth is!  That's; only $10 from 80 people, $1 from 800 people, $100 from 8 people or $200 from 4 people.

Don't forget - BiNet USA is a 501c3 organization.  Donations are tax deductible!

Interested? Send me a pledge ASAP!  I hear time is limited if we wish to accomplish something this year.

Lution, a GLBT shop, is located on Allen St. across from Adonias & Cathode Ray clubs near North Pearl.  Since the shop at Buddies went belly-up a few months ago it has been impossible to find anything locally.  She has rings, jewelry, clothing, cards, art work and much much more and is expanding her line each week.  She wants to have DVD's, books and magazines in the future as well.  She is looking for people to show off their art work or to provide other services like tattoos or massages at some future point.

She has the Bear stuff.  But she is and will serve the whole GLBT community.  For the ladies "I'm waiting for you to come in" and see her beautiful line of Amy Brown Tanks & Tees, fairies and jewelry.

Bis come on in.  She is getting more bi stuff every week!!!  I'm picking up my new t-shirt there this weekend called "Bi of the storm".  It is white with the bi pride colors in a circle with a storm burst around the edge.  It has blue piping on it to really set it off.  I also got a new Bi Flag decal that I put on my journal too.  I think they are both great and awesome bi graphics.

International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission - http://www.iglhrc.org/site/iglhrc/

Introduction to the Asylum Documentation Program

Introduction

Since 1990, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) has been documenting worldwide human rights abuses based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and HIV status. Up to date, IGLHRC’s Asylum Documentation Program (ADP), based in San Francisco, has assisted over 6,600 people worldwide.

About IGLHRC's Asylum Documentation Program

The Asylum Documentation Program (ADP) provides support to worldwide claims for political asylum made by those who fear persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV/AIDS status. This is achieved through providing documentation (country packets) on human rights abuses perpetrated against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, and those living with HIV/AIDS to their lawyers/advocates, and occasionally to other interested parties. On a limited basis, the Asylum Documentation Program may also provide contact information for immigration advocates who have handled sexual orientation cases.

As part of IGLHRC's ongoing commitment to disseminate information pertaining to the human rights status of LGBT people worldwide, IGLHRC and asylumlaw.org have teamed up to create an online library of the ASYLUM DOCUMENTATION PROGRAM (ADP) of IGLHRC. This library, comprised of country packets, is available to all interested individuals and institutions free of charge. All you have to do is register with Asylumlaw.org, a free website, to gain access to the information. (see instructions below on how to access a country packet online).

Definition of Country Packet

A country packet may contain some or most of the following types of documentation:

• Written decisions from successful court cases (U.S. and foreign tribunals)
• Authoritative declarations on the human rights status of sexual minorities in a particular country
• Advisory opinions from representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
• Affidavits and/or declarations from country condition experts
• Affidavits or declarations from granted asylum seekers
• Newspaper and/or magazine articles
• Articles published on the Internet by reputable sources
• Reports or books by organizations or researchers on related topics

In order to make our country packets most useful to the public, we regularly update the documentation in the country packets. Also as we continue digitalizing our archives, more information and country packets will be added to this virtual library.

The Purpose of Country Packets

IGLHRC's country packets are an invaluable tool for those seeking asylum based on sexual orientation or HIV status or other type of immigration remedies. Our country packets enable asylum seekers or their legal advocates to provide the immigration authorities with proof of human rights abuses in their country of origin. Our information is also critical to researchers, members of academia, and journalist investigating world-wide persecution of LGBT people and those living with HIV/AIDS. IGLHRC’s country conditions library that begun in 1990 is the world's most complete LGBT documentation library of its kind in the world.

Note: Most of the existing country packets are currently in the form of one single PDF file. In the future, we plan to add updated documentation for each country as individual files. This will give our user the ability to download the document(s) most relevant to their case. Eventually all country packets in our online library will be comprised of individual documents.

Limits

The list of the countries for which we have country packets DOES NOT represent all the countries in the world where there is persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity and/or HIV/AIDS status. This list, for the most part, represents countries for which the Asylum Documentation Program of IGLHRC has received requests for documentation since 1990.

Every day in countries throughout the world, the fundamental rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people living with HIV/AIDS are violated. These abuses include: murder, incarceration, forced psychiatric "treatment," torture, arbitrary arrest and detention, denial of the freedoms of association, self-expression, press and movement, denial of the right to seek refuge/asylum, immigration restrictions, forced marriage, the revocation of parental rights and numerous other forms of discrimination. Due to our limited resources, IGLHRC is not in a position to track all instances of human rights abuse in all countries.

Disclaimer

IGLHRC makes every effort to ascertain the accuracy of the items contained in this site which are products of its own research. Nevertheless, some information contained on this site is based on research by third parties unconnected with IGLHRC. Accordingly, IGLHRC or AsylumLaw.org cannot assume any responsibility for the accuracy of the information contained in this site obtained by third parties.

How to Access A Country Packet online

The country packet is downloadable for free, courtesy of Asylumlaw.org. You can find the full list of countries for which we have digital documentation available on asylumlaw.org.

To access country packets, go to www.asylumlaw.org. On the homepage of that website, you will find a navigation bar at the top of the page. Click on “Legal Tools.” Then, from the “Country or Theme” scroll down menu select the last option, “Sexual minorities & HIV status.” Once you are on the “Sexual Minorities & HIV status” page, you will be on the section of the asylumlaw.org website that is maintained by IGLHRC. You may click on any of the options, including “Organizations” and “Other Relevant Documents/Reports. “ To access country/theme packets, click on “Packets by Theme” or “Packets, by Country of Origin,” located at the bottom of the page.

Please note that IGLHRC’s Asylum documents are accessible without registering with Asylumlaw.org, however if you are an immigration attorney, we encourage you to register with the website to gain access to other sections. The registration is free and it may take a short time before Asylumlaw.org approves your membership. Once you are approved as a member, you can use your log-in name and password to access our country packets as well as other parts of Asylumlaw.org.

If you do not see the country for which you are seeking information on this list, please contact the Asylum Documentation Program at asylum@iglhrc.org, or call 415-398-2759. We may have more country packets that have not yet been posted. Please note that our Asylum Documentation Program library is constantly being updated. Please visit us again in the future as we will continue to update other country packets and post new ones on the website.

Other Informational document packets available Online

In addition to the country packets, we also offer three thematic packets that may compliment a particular case on different topics. You can find the following informational packets online at:

http://www.asylumlaw.org/legal_tools/index.cfm?category=282&countryID=233

Our Thematic Packets include:

1. Islamic World Country Packet: This packet illustrates the difficult juncture between Islam and homosexuality and the impact it may have on LGBT people and those living with HIV/AIDS in different countries.

2. Lesbian Issues Packet: This packet was created to further support the asylum claims of lesbians, who because they are women, may face other types of issues not shared with homosexual men.

3. Transgender Issues Packet: This packet has been put together to assist immigration attorneys and asylum-seekers in front of an immigration judge or immigration authority who may be unfamiliar with transgender issues.

Support our Work!

IGLHRC and the Asylum Documentation Program have made every effort to keep this library free of charge to potential asylum seekers, immigration attorneys, paralegals, law students, researchers and others. Your donation will enable us to expand our resources and help other people who need our support. You can make a donation online at this address:

Submitting New Information about LGBT Human Rights Violations

If you have information you would like to share about worldwide human rights violations against LGBT people or those living with HIV/AIDS, please send it, preferably as a PDF file, to asylum@iglhrc.org. You can also submit a URL link to the webpage where we can find the information, or if you prefer, simply snail mail us the article.

The ADP will review your submissions and if we find the information relevant and reliable, we will add it to our online library. Your contribution to the library will be greatly appreciated by other visitors to our site.

Below is a great site for queer spiritual men.  If there is one for womyn I have not found it and would be happy to hear that there is one to add to our Links page.

It covers and gives suggestions on how to heal and to have a spirituality either tied to a major world religion or belief system, or to create your own drawing from different traditions.  If your spiritual or want to be again this is the place to start regardless of your faith background.  Peace!
